Health Surveillance, Health and Biological Monitoring

Our team of Occupational Health Nurses and Technicians have over 20 years’ experience in operating health surveillance programmes.

 

The service includes:

 

  • HAVS (Hand and Arm Vibration Syndrome and any associated CTS/Carpal Tunnel Syndrome): The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005
  • Audiometry (Hearing): The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. (Audiometry / hearing tests).

Pre-employment Medicals

It is not a legal requirement for employees to undergo a pre-employment medical but it is good practice that all employees complete a pre-employment Health Assessment Questionnaire. The online portal is designed to track and manage the health and safety records of all employees

 

The UK Screening Solutions Health online questionnaire has key indicators embedded that will automatically identify medical concerns and prompt one of our Occupational Health team to contact the employee by phone or to arrange a consultation or to visit one of our medical units.

 

Our online Health Assessment Questionnaires allows the employee to review and update their medical records if their circumstances changes or are prescribed medication by their doctor.

Health Assessments

At UK Screening Solutions we offer a wide range of Occupational Health services from our online portal, aiming to assist with reducing illness and promoting health and well-being across the workplace. The service has an advisory role in assisting the employer meet its general duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, working alongside management to ensure that the working environment is safe and that a person’s health is not adversely affected by their work activities.

 

The service offers impartial advice to both the employer and employee. Information that we give to management is factual and excludes any clinical (medical) details, relating only to specific advice about recommended work restrictions and/or modifications.

 

The clinical staff of the service do not offer treatment or duplicate the role of the General Practitioner (GP) therefore all staff must be registered with a GP.

 

Service provision includes:

 

  • Employment and health surveillance for employees
  • Advice and guidance for staff with health problems that could affect / impact their ability to do their job
  • Assessment for fitness to work after an illness or injury
  • Assessment of health related performance concerns
  • Periodic health checks and advice dependent on the nature of your job and hazard exposure in accordance with health and safety legislation
  • Well-Being Clinics
  • Health Promotion using monthly campaigns in line with national campaigns

  • Ergonomic assessments and advice regarding workplace adaptions / modifications / equipment
  • Work place visits / assessments
  • Accident / incident follow ups
  • Training and information on the management of work and health issues
  • Referrals i.e. Physiotherapy where indicated following an OH consultation

Referral to Occupational Health

 

Referrals to Occupational Health may be initiated either by an employee (self-referral) or with their consent, the employee’s manager (management referral):

 

Self-referral

 

If a member of staff has a health problem with work contributory factors or a health problem that affects their ability to do their job and feels unable to discuss this with their manager, they may self- refer to Occupational Health for an assessment and specific advice. No management report is usually written following this assessment.

Management referral

Managers may refer a member of staff for an assessment and advice where there is concern about the person’s health in relation, for example, to their performance or following long term or frequent sickness absence. An assessment can identify any work related health issues and provide objective information to assist in managing the situation.

 

Occupational Health should always be contacted if:

 

  • the work involves exposure to hazardous substances that require health surveillance
  • an employee is suffering from a skin or respiratory problem that could be work-related
  • There has been a significant exposure to an infectious disease
